The Tip of the Thumb Heritage Water Trail is a 103-mile water trail on Lake Huron that winds around Michigan?s Thumb into Saginaw Bay. The southern section of the water trail travels past many interesting but rocky areas, including the The ?northern? section of the trail begins at White Rock Park and travels north and around the thumb terminating at the Quanicassee River public access site. The ?southern? section of the trail begins at White Rock Park and travels south, terminating at the City of Lexington. Paddlers can access the water trail at 44 different access points along the trail.?famous ?Turnip Rock? (see right). Once paddlers round the point at Port Austin, the shore becomes sandy.
