The ("New") Presque Isle Lighthouse

    Natural or Wildlife Viewing Features:

Traveling on US-23 between Alpena and Rogers City, turn east onto County Road 638. Stay on County Road 638 for 4.1 miles, until the intersection of Grand Lake Road. Turn left (north), passing Presque State Harbor, and go for 1.7 miles, to the new Presque Isle Lighthouse.

There are hiking trails and vistas overlooking Lake Huron here. The best waterbird observation site is at the end of the driveway directly east of the lighthouse. The area's only record of Purple Sandpiper was made here. All three species of scoters have been recorded here during migration. Daily counts of oldsquaw (long-tailed duck) have exceeded a thousand birds on a good migration day.

There is a museum at the lighthouse. For a small donation you can climb the lighthouse tower.
