Grand Traverse Natural Education Reserve
The Reserve has six trails to explore along the Boardman River. Encompassing over 500 acres of meadow, forest, river and wetland ecosystems just three miles south of Traverse City, the Natural Education Reserve is a great place for outdoor education and passive recreation.
The well-developed trail system consists of nearly 7 miles of mostly single-track trails that traverse the property in a north-south direction along the Boardman River. There are a number of overlooks and water access sites. Sections of the trail include several stretches of boardwalk. A paved barrier free trail begins at the Lone Pine Trailhead and follows the river north for approximately 1/2 mile.
Note: Not all sections of each trail are approved for every activity listed for the trail as a whole. Please click on individual trail sections to see approved activities for that section.
